 ****************************************

The prisoner in the title of Neil Simon’s “The Prisoner of Second Avenue” is Mel Edison, an underachieving, middle-aged businessman trapped in an unfulfilling and none-too-secure job. He and wife Edna are recent empty nesters, having sent both their daughters off to college.

The prison is actually an expensive 14th story Manhattan apartment with barely functioning plumbing and air conditioning, made even less habitable by the noise and the smell of garbage from the street below.

When Edna notices Mel’s worsening paranoia, she sends him for daily sessions with a very expensive psychiatrist, then asks Mel’s brother, Harry and sisters Pearl, Pauline and Jessie for financial help.

Harry and the sisters love their baby brother and would do anything to help - within reason.

The cast includes: Rick Flynn and Patty Bell as Mel and Edna Edison, and Dave Nickel, Sherron Henry, Bobbi Davis, and Susan Robert, as Mel’s brother and sisters, Harry, Pearl, Jessie, and Pauline.

This story of stress and family friction is told with the usual Neil Simon warmth and wit.
